Tektro TRP T925

Even if you’ve gone over your bike with an aero fine-toothed comb, chances are you probably hadn’t thought to upgrade to super slippery brake callipers. With these new Tektro brakes, however, aero performance is the name of the game. They mount behind the front fork to reduce drag and are optimised for internal cable routing.

The brakes didn’t feel like an upgrade when fitting them, as they’re considerably heavier (156g rear, 172g front) than the Shimano Dura Ace brakes I already had on my tri bike (and the colour didn’t match my frame!). But once out on the road, they brake at least as well as the Shimanos.

Modulation was good and braking always felt controlled, progressive and not at all grabby. With no wind tunnel data to back up the aero claims I’d probably still opt for my lighter Dura Ace but, if you’re running 105s or Ultegras, and want to pimp your ride, these are definitely worth a look.
