Lightweight RD

This is über-bling: a light (120g), all-carbon, functional (because of the inherent stiffness of the material) rear derailleur – all for a penny… under 800 quid! Not cheap, but things of great beauty very rarely are.

We had it working perfectly with Campagnolo’s Chorus 10 drivetrain, even if it made our test bike look like a Ford Mondeo with a Ferrari steering wheel. The Lightweight derailleur works with Shimano and Campag – you just swap the position where the cable anchors. It’s got titanium where carbon fibre won’t work, and aluminium sleeves for all the adjusters to increase wear. KCNC anodised jockey wheels complete an impressive engineering package.

The barrel adjuster was a bit stiff, though, requiring plier jaws wrapped with cloth to turn it. And standard screws on the high and low gear adjusters could see a slipping screwdriver cause a nasty scratch on that beautiful carbon weave.
