Shimano RW80 Winter

You may be questioning the need for parting with your hard-earned cash for a winter-only shoe, particularly one that looks like an army boot.

They are a bit chunky, so you’re sure to get a few comments – and a pair of decent overshoes will be almost as good – but bear with us, because through the worst winter weather you’re going to need high levels of insulation, protection against water ingress and bomb-proof build quality. No pair of overshoes will be able to compete with the RW80’s in this respect.

These shoes are warm, impervious to the weather, and fully reinforced while still permitting adjustment and easy removal. You’re paying a premium for Gore-Tex but for winter shoes it’s worth it. Functionally they perform, too, and, although there’s a bit of a high spot at the MPJ, general comfort and power delivery are good.
