Spiuk EVO 2

Spiuk use a three-layer theory when designing their garment range: the inner (base) layer is used predominantly for breathability and moisture transportation; the mid-layer for thermoregulation; and the outer layer for insulation. A combination of these layers can (they claim) provide solutions to nearly any condition.

The EVO 2 is Spiuk’s mild winter base layer. It’s a thin, 100% polyester, semi-mesh fabric that has been simply cut, providing a close fit. The first thing you’ll notice is the sizing – the large actually feels more like a ‘small’ and the body is definitely not long enough for riding.

The seams and the cut also produce a ruffled section under the armpits that can cause discomfort. On the plus side, the thermoregulation and moisture management were surprisingly good and worked well.

But at the sub-£30 price point, if you’re looking for a basic, breathable base layer, this could be the one for you.
