Polar CS100B
Coming from the pioneers of heart rate monitoring, the Polar computer has a lot to live up to. All the key functions are present, and offering heart rate compatibility at this price is excellent.
Although you don’t get a chest strap with the package, it seems most triathletes have a Polar strap knocking about somewhere. Fitting is a simple matter of eight cable ties, and the head unit can be bar or stem mounted.
The head unit is good looking, the speed sensor sleek and unobtrusive, and the display clear. There’s also scope for upgrading the system and a cadence sensor can be added for £24.50.
Out riding, performance was faultless with no synching issues or interference. The large rubber buttons were easy to use but were a bit close together for 100% error-free operation on the move, especially when wearing full winter gloves. Post-ride recall was excellent including key time spent in training zone information.
