Swim with clarity from sunrise to sunset with Zoggs Advanced Lens technology
Discover more about the Zoggs Advanced Lens technology and the eight different types of lenses available within the Zoggs range. For swimming in all conditions – from bright sun to cloud, and everything in between.
For more than three decades, Zoggs has been refining and redefining arguably the most important bit of swim kit you’ll ever buy – the swim goggle. While fit and comfort remain essential, lens technology has become increasingly important for swimmers and triathletes moving between indoor pools, open water, and through ever-changing light conditions.
Sponsored: After decades of development, the brand has introduced a range of specialist lens technologies designed to respond to different light environments and levels of visibility. From polarized lenses, made to help reduce glare and surface reflection in bright conditions, to photochromic designs that adjust to changing light throughout a swim session. Other lenses are built to enhance contrast, improve clarity, and reduce visual fatigue. They’re subtle differences that can have a noticeable impact in the water, particularly over longer sessions or in challenging conditions.
As one of the first swim brands to establish itself in the indoor and outdoor sphere, it’s no accident that Zoggs has featured consistently here at 220Triathlon since its inception. A brand that has become synonymous with quality and reliable swim gear, we were curious to find out more about the tech used in their goggles.
Every bit of gear is optimised to the max in today’s training and racing, and we’ve seen swim lenses take a similar trajectory to become high-performance tools in their own right. At the end of the day, the swim goggles that you’ll be reaching for time and time again will be those that are tailored to help you excel, no matter your swim environment.
Master the light with Zoggs performance lenses
Early morning training, low-lit indoor pools, bright open water, and variable weather each place different demands on visibility, depth perception, and eye comfort. Don’t let the weather get in the way of your swim – being able to see clearly in the water is not only key for admiring the view during an open water dip, it’s also essential for swim safety and comfort. With the right equipment, your swim could become the highlight of your day, which is why Zoggs has developed eight different lens technologies to cover all light conditions. To find the right lens for you, it’s worth checking out Zoggs’ lens finder. Otherwise, read on to find out more…

Titanium Reactor lens
For: Changeable and extreme light swims
Similar to the Reactor lens below, this titanium version changes its tint in response to variations in light – transforming from a pale grey to a mirror green tint. As light conditions get brighter, the lens gradually transforms into titanium, and the light allowed through passes from 90% to 10% in order to shade the eyes. The mirror aspect is designed to further protect the eyes from glare in particularly bright conditions.
Reactor lens
For: Changeable light swims
If you tend to reach for either a clear or smoke lens during your swims, the Reactor lens covers all bases, without the need to switch out your goggles when the light changes. This pale grey (almost transparent) lens transforms its tint from clear to smoke in response to changing light levels. As more and more light passes through, the brightness becomes increasingly dimmed in response. In low-light conditions, 90% of light flows through the lens, while bright conditions will activate smoke mode where only 30% of light flows through.

Polarized Ultra lens
For: Low and bright light swims, blue light environments
One step further than Zoggs’ standard polarized lens, the ultra version is an enhanced copper lens that filters out harmful blue light, while also reducing glare and light reflection off the water. It works by partially blocking blue light beams and filtering out 50% of horizontal light. The lens can be used in both high and low light conditions, making it a good option if you’re after a maximum comfort lens that can cope with changeable lighting.
Polarized lens
For: Direct sunlight and high light swims
Like the above lens, this polarized style is designed to protect against harsh direct light. While the polarized element brings the additional benefit of reducing glare from light reflection off the surface of the water. The lens does this by partially blocking incoming light and filtering through 20% of reflected light. Polarized lenses afford a much sharper colour contrast, too.
Titanium lens
For: Direct sunlight and extremely bright swims
A titanium lens is brilliant for maximum protection and comfort when swimming in the brightest light conditions. Whether you’re swimming in direct sunlight or in a bright environment with lots of glare, a titanium lens is built to reduce harmful glare and reflections from the sun. The reflective mirror coating reflects the majority of an incoming light beam back on itself, letting the remaining 7% pass through the lens in a dimmer and filtered tone that’s more gentle to the eye. This lens has both a silver mirror and a coloured mirror finish.

Tint Smoke lens
For: Bright outdoor swims
A tinted smoke lens includes both dark smoked and grey lens styles. As light passes through the lens filter, intensity is reduced to 40%, so that what you see through the goggles is a significantly darker and shaded view. This kind of protective lens tint is key for comfort during bright and sunny swims.
Tint Blue lens
For: Indoor or overcast swims
In bright indoor pool lighting or overcast outdoors swims, you’ll want a touch more protection from glare, without compromising your vision. To both manage and maintain brightness, a tinted lens lets 60% of light through, just enough to feel comfortable as it reaches the eyes. This blue tint offers the versatility needed to bring clarity to a wide range of conditions, without being overkill.
Clear lens
For: Indoor pool swims
This completely clear lens is designed for extremely low light and overcast conditions. The transparent lens lets the light enter directly through, without any filter or tint, as it makes its way to the eye. For swims where no UV protection is needed, this clear lens is the perfect choice for maximum clarity and real-life colours.
