Seventh Wilmslow Tri set for May 2013

Sprint-distance race set to sell-out long before May event

The Wilmslow Triathlon, which always sells out well in advance, will be back in the Cheshire town for the seventh time next May. Taking place on Sunday 12 May 2013, the sprint-distance triathlon takes place around the leafy town of Wilmslow and the Cheshire plains.

Based at the Wilmslow Leisure Centre, the 400m swim takes place in the 25m indoor pool and the transition area as well as the start and finish are on the cricket pitch. The picturesque, mainly flat 24.2 km cycle ride takes the competitors around the Cheshire countryside and the 5.6km run goes around East Wilmslow’s leafy roads, a mostly flat route with some inclines near the River Bollin.

The Wilmslow Triathlon has been consistently growing in size and popularity over the last few years, attracting novices, experienced and elite triathletes alike.

Event costs are £42 for individual entries or £55 for team entries, including numbered racking, electronic chip timing and an excellent goody bag. The prize giving takes place after the event, with prizes awarded in the following categories: overall winners (male and female), male and female age groups, relay team prize, club prize (first 3 athletes from the same club) and novice prize.

The introduction of a new route in 2012 led to inaugural course records being claimed by Roger Witz Barnes (01:05:41) and Dominique Searle (01:15:49).

The Wilmslow Triathlon also kicks off the Xtra Mile Events Tri Sprint Series 2013, with the Buxton Triathlon (14 July 2013), Leeds Xpress Triathlon (28 July 2013), Macclesfield Triathlon (18 August 2013) and South Manchester Triathlon (22 September 2013) also being part of the Series. Competitors are however welcome to take part in the Wilmslow Triathlon as a single event.

Entries close on 9th May 2013 or when sold out, go to www.xtramileevents.com to secure your place now.
