Scotland’s very own off-road triathlon event, the Tri Centre Durty Triathlon is back again for 2009. It will be held, as last year, on the lochside and hills above St. Mary’s Loch in the spectacular Scottish Borders on Saturday 1 August.

Organised by the local Scottish Borders Triathlon club, the inaugural event was hugely popular in 2008, and was the winner of the prestigious Triathlon Scotland ‘Event of the Year’ award.

Entries are coming in thick and fast from all over the UK, including many from the South of England – it looks as though the reputation of the event as being fun, friendly, tough and a wee bit stupid has spread far and wide.

The event is intended to be ‘newbie-friendly’ and new participants are very welcome. The organisers even lay on an informal ‘swim taster’ session before the event to let participants get used to swimming in open water.

The races will be run over two distances – both of which are open to solo entrants and relay teams of three;

‘Short Fast Durty One’ comprising a 750m swim, 15km mountain bike, and 5km trail run; and the ‘Long Hard Durty One’ consisting of a 1500m swim, 30km mountain bike, and 10km trail run.

More details on the event are available at www.durtytriathlon.com, and online entry is at www.entrycentral.com
