French athlete greets fans, friends and family from his hospital bed following cardiac arrest

Following the shock news that two-time Olympian Laurent Vidal suffered a cardiac arrest in swim training last week, the French athlete has delighted his fans, friends and family by tweeting “Hello world” from his hospital bed in Montpelier.

Vidal, 30, was rushed to hospital a week ago (24 April) after experiencing severe chest pains while swimming, according to the French newspaper Midi Libre. Already his tweet has received over 600 retweets and 1,000 favourites, with dozens of comments rolling in from fellow athletes including Jodie Stimpson, Simon Whitfield and Tyler Butterfield.
