Israel prepares to host 2012 Euros

The 2012 Euro Champs take place in southern Israel this weekend with two guaranteed Olympic spots and a host of age-group medals on offer

The 2012 Eilat ETU Triathlon European Championships take place in southern Israel this weekend with two guaranteed Olympic spots allocated to the winners and a host of age-group medals on offer.

France is hoping to snatch the women’s spot with reigning champion Emmie Charayron and additional strength in Jessica Harrison and Carole Peon, but Nicola Spirig (SUI) will have very different ideas.

While Javier Gomez (ESP) makes a season debut, he is up against the likes of Alexander Bryukhankov (RUS) and Sven Riederer (SUI) who along with Spirig, has the potential to produce a Swiss double.

The race will also host the Euro Champs for age-groupers, with a British contingent heading to the Middle East in an attempt to repeat the medal winning success of the age-group teams at the 2010 and 2011 European Championships in Athlone and Pontevedra, respectively. Look out for race reports in issue 274 of 220 from Eilat.
