It's known for its lavish prize money and bonuses, but how much can triathletes earn from the Ironman Pro Series? We crunch the numbers.

Since it attracts triathlon’s biggest names and a host of sponsors, you may have wondered how much can triathletes earn from the Ironman Pro Series.

It turns out being a top Ironman triathlete is well renumerated. There’s a massive $4.15million prize pot for 2025 which competitors can win cash from in several ways. Ironman offers an additional $1.91million in prize money for Ironman and Ironman 70.3 Series Events that do not constitute the Pro Series. 

In this article, we’ll explain how triathletes earn money from the Ironman Pro Series. We’ll also reveal last season’s highest earners. 

How much can triathletes earn from the Ironman Pro Series in prize money?

The 18 Ironman Pro Series races in the 2025 calendar will pay out a total of $2.45million in prize money.

As you can see from the breakdown below, the most lucrative Ironman events award $750,000 in prize money on the day, equally split between the women and men.

In such events, the podium finishers receive $125,000, $65,000 and $45,000 in order of their finishing position.

What are the Ironman Pro Series bonuses worth?

Ironman also rewards the athletes for their final position in the Pro Series points rankings. 

The top 10 women and women divide $1.3million between them, with each champion taking home $200,000. These cheques were written to Gregory Barnaby and Kat Mathews last year. 

The Brit’s fellow podium finishers Jackie Hering (second) and Lotte Wilms (third) earned bonuses of $130,000 and $85,000 respectively. 

For completing the men’s overall podium, Patrick Lange (second) received $130,000 and Kristian Høgenhaug (third) netted $85,000 in bonuses.

Triathletes who finish outside of the top ten don’t miss out financially though. Athletes positioned between 11th and 50th share $400,000. 

The 11th to 15th placed men and women receive $8,000 each, the 16th to 20th placed finishers get $6,000 each and the 21st to 30th placed athletes win $5,500 each.

A finish between 31st and 40th place earns $4,500 and $3,000 is awarded for final rankings between 41st and 50th.
