Great October racing in Brackley

Race report from the inaugural Brackley Try-a-Tri

Just had this in from the race organisers of the Brackley Try-a-tri. Head to www.onyourmarksevents.org for more on their events.

One of the finest autumn days was the perfect backdrop for the inaugural Brackley Try-a-Tri.

130 young and adult novice triathletes took to the water at Brackley Swimming Pool on Sunday 2 October. Each age category competed in up to three per lane allowing for some tight competitive racing throughout the course. There followed a 200m run through to transition and a fast flat bike route.

The adult’s race was won by Martin Ash of Baines Racing, only 32 seconds ahead of novice athlete, Ross Wood. Helen Stewart was the first Lady, 6th overall, followed by Steph Elgey-Farmer, with Erika Karssiens only 3secs behind. The youth boys race was a close contest with Ryan Woods from Northants Tri finishing 8secs ahead of second place Charlie Harris.

Competitors passed the finish line to the sound of live music from six local bands and there was plenty to keep both competitors and spectators entertained with a ANS Catering Services, sports therapy, trade stands courtesy of Baines Racing and The Swim Shed, and a free bouncy castle for the youngsters.
