“We wanted to create a changing robe that offers a more refined, tailored aesthetic.” Dryrobe launch new city to sea weatherproof parka.
The originators of the oversized, warm, waterproof coat beloved by outdoor swimmers, triathletes and dog walkers everywhere, I caught up with Dryrobe to find out a little about their modern new changing robe design.
Nobody loves a Dryrobe more than me. Friends have got used to me turning up to all kinds of events in my voluminous, brightly-coloured coat – often with swim goggles in the pockets and the odd bit of lake weed attached to the hood. Nice brunch? Changing robe over jeans and a jumper. Morning walk and coffee? Same but with outdoor boots.
In fact, I went as far as to suggest that Dryrobes are the Crocs of the triathlon world in an earlier piece for this website (and I mean that in a good way).
Not everyone likes to be swathed in acres of fleece-lined fabric at all times though and even I have to admit that at times, a sleeker and lighter look might be welcome and a bit more practical.
Dryrobe, but sleeker
Turns out the brand are on the same page though, with the announcement of a new launch – the Nexus. Designed to go from city to sea, it is a more svelte version of the original.
Brand founder Gideon Bright told me: “Nexus is a project we’ve been incredibly passionate about. We wanted to create a changing robe that offers a more refined, tailored aesthetic for everyday use without ever compromising on the core performance we’re known for.
“By introducing a more streamlined fit, a lighter-weight lining, and an industry-leading 30,000mm durable waterproof outer, we’ve created a changing robe that feels just as natural in an urban environment as it does on the shoreline—protecting you from the harshest elements, wherever and whenever you need it.’
The Nexus comes in two colourways at launch. There’s a funky camo version which lovers of the original will love, plus a more stealth plain black version which may be a more prudent choice if your use is more city than sea.

Keeping you warm and dry
Offering industry-leading 30,000mm waterproofing, Dryrobe tell us the tough, matte-finished tear-resistant, ripstop outer fabric, combines with PFC-free BIONIC-FINISH ECO Durable Water-Repellent (DWR) to make the Nexus most weatherproof change robe out there. Fully-taped seams further enhance protection against the elements.
The iconic Dryrobe signature style has also been refined for city life, with a slightly tailored fit, a clean design and minimalistic branding for a modern aesthetic, all achieved without compromising the versatility that enables you to get changed easily anywhere, anytime.
The Nexus is crafted from 100% GRS-certified recycled fabrics, featuring a recycled nylon outer and recycled polyester inner. It also features ‘fast-dryingback2skin™ technology’, with a lighter-weight fleece lining that provides the perfect balance of warmth and moisture-wicking capability, helping you heat up quickly after getting out of the water while delivering streamlined comfort for everyday wear.
Functionality has been enhanced throughout, with innovative features including YKK Aquaguard zips for total weather protection, a peaked, adjustable fleece-lined hood, plus reach-through pockets that allow access to mid-layers without unzipping.

All of the changing robes reviewed for 220 Triathlon go through a full product test and I’m looking forward to putting this one through its paces and updating with a full review soon.
