The worldwide Challenge family is welcoming a new member. On 5 September 2010, the Kaufhaus Tyrol Challenge Walchsee-Kaiserwinkl will debut at the foot of the Kaisergebirge mountains in Austria.

The beautiful Kaiserwinkl region, only a stone’s throw from the German border, will be the location of the first Challenge triathlon in Austria – and it will provide an extraordinary event over a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and 21.1km run.

The swim course will be in the Walchsee lake at the foot of the Kaisergebirge. The lake is 25 metres deep and is of drinking water quality. The bike course takes athletes through the Pillerseetal valley to Hochfilzen and Schwendt before the return trip to the Walchsee lake. The three-lap run course along the lake promenade.
The eighth location of the Challenge series in the “Kaiserwinkl” region in Tyrol will add another attraction to the global series, which now includes races in Roth, Germany; Wanaka, New Zealand; Niederbronn-Les-Bains, France; Barcelona, Spain (two events); Kraichgau, Germany and Copenhagen, Denmark (as of 2010).

The last few details of the course are still being worked out, but the application lists will be launched on July 12 – the day the “mother event,” the Quelle Challenge Roth, takes place. The new homepage www.challenge-walchsee.at is now online with more information. For more about the Challenge series, visit the Quelle Challenge Roth website at www.challenge-roth.de.
