Britain’s Liz Blatchford stepped up a gear on the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Series in Yokohama, Japan, with a fourth-placed finish behind race winner Lisa Norden of Sweden.

Originally from Manchester but now living on the Gold Coast, Blatchford set up her result with a great swim and stayed with the leaders in the bike and run phases despite soaring temperatures and 100% humidity.

Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand was second and local favourite, Juri Ide of Japan, was third. Blatchford was just 0.27 off a bronze, finishing in 1:56.23.

Britain’s Jodie Swallow also raced today and finished 20th in 2:01.10. Both women now make the trip to Australia for next month’s Grand Final on the Gold Coast.

The ITU have announced that the Dextro Energy Triathlon – ITU World Championships Grand Final from Gold Coast will be shown on the BBC at the following times:

Live for the men’s race on the 12th of September at 6.10am on red button

Live for women’s race on the 13th of September at 5.40am on red button

Highlights for both at 4pm on Sunday 13th on BBC2.
