Ali Brownlee to race 10,000m event

Olympic Champion to enter Highgate Harriers’ 'Night of the 10,000m PB’s' in London

Highgate Harriers have invited the great 220 readership to a free night of international athletics on May 10th in London. A certain Olympic triathlon champion, Alistair Brownlee, will be on the startline, along with four time Olympian Jo Pavey, European Cross-Country champion Sophie Duarte and over 120 other top runners going toe to toe at their ‘Night of the 10,000m PBs’.

This year Highgate have five races for aspiring athletes and the quickest men’s and women’s races will year incorporate the British Championship and European championship trials for Team GB, fuelling the rumours that Ali Brownlee is sizing up his chances of competing at Rio 2016 in the 10,000m.

Date: 10th May 2014

Time: 6pm with Elite races 8.15pm & 9pm

Venue: Parliament Hill Athletics Track, NW5 1QR, London

Transport: Belsize Park Tube station or Gospel Oak Overground

Cost: Entry 100% free

In addition to the elite races Highgate Harriers will also hold three open 10,000m races to accommodate aspiring club athletes snaffle personal bests via a unique atmosphere pace makers, live bands, athletes chosen motivational music and more.

The 2014 event will be unique, 100% free to all spectators (on lane 4 of the track cheering their heroes), with live music, fresh cooked food, athlete requested motivational tunes via PA system and alcohol licence all on the track itself.

To create the event Highgate Harriers have been supported by the City of London Corporation who manage the track facility and have also worked closely with British Athletics and England Athletics.
