Speedo Tri Comp tri-suit review

Designed for every distance and padding is near-invisible on the run, but the leg grippers have as much give as a bailiff

Speedo have played a fundamental role in the history of tri-suits, with their Aqua Blade ushering in the widespread adoption of one-pieces in the nineties.

The Tri Comp Suit tops their stripped-down 2015 collection (the £55 Tri Event is the only other), with its £80 price tag still pitched at the lower-end of the market.

>>> Best tri-suits of 2015

Designed for every race distance, the Tri Comp’s perforated foam pad delivers in the comfort and quick-drying stakes, offering enough bottom protection for short-course bike stints and near-invisibility on the run.

The covered pockets are neatly positioned and a decent size for gels, while breathability on some sticky April sessions was impressive. Sadly, there’s a major stumbling block and it comes in the ‘Power Bands’ on the legs.

Where most leg grippers have a degree of flexibility, these have about as much give as a bailiff, with the touted compression hugely restrictive and producing a serious case of the sausage effect on our (medium-sized) legs.

Verdict: A major flaw on an otherwise good effort from Speedo, 69%
