Review: Aqua Sphere MP Focus Snorkel

This snorkel from Aqua Sphere is designed to allow you to breathe whilst keeping your head in a fixed position through the water. Did our reviewer get on swimmingly with it?

In association with Michael Phelps, Aqua Sphere present this fascinating-looking contraption designed to allow swimmers to focus on technique and body position without needing to turn to breathe.

The shaft has a more aerodynamic shape than standard snorkels to decrease drag, and you can adjust the strap position by sliding it up or down. One thing to be wary of is that breathing purely via your mouth will take some getting used to – some of our swimming buddies didn’t get this straight away and sucked water right up their nose!

Used in combination with a nosepiece would be advisable in any case, as we found water tended to travel up the nostrils after continued use. The Focus Swim Snorkel is a useful innovation, and eliminating the need to come up to breathe is theoretically a good idea in order to master swim technique one step at a time.

Verdict: A useful tool for the triathlete looking to hone their swim strokes, 81%
