The big sell of the Trail MTN Aero is the dual-layer construction, which successfully wicks sweat away from the skin to the surface layer. The downside of this is that sweat patches are clearly evident on the chest of this green colourway, so we’d opt for their darker blue or grey editions instead. The mesh back provides plenty of breathability on 20°C-plus runs and the 90% polyester/10% elastane mix boasts a comfortable athletic fit that sits well on the body. A number of reflective details and a headphone loop on the back of the neck are welcome extras.

Verdict: The trail MTN aero offers breathability and impressive wicking at an affordable price 84%

From Greg Welch to Emma Carney and Brad Beven, the Aussies have shown plenty of grit on the tri course over the years. Aussie Grit Apparel is led by former Formula One driver Mark Webber, producing a growing – and stylish – collection of off-road bike and run kit. The Flint is their sole short-sleeve run tee and comes in bigger and looser than the Scott and Huub, so think about sizing down. The polyester/elastane mix wicks sweat well and dries quickly, and the flat-lock seams stay chafe-free. We initially questioned the £59 price tag, but that’s now dropped to a more wallet-friendly £39.

Verdict: Decent enough debut from the Aussie brand 79%

The DS (Dave Scott) range of race wear from Huub has long impressed us, and the 88% polyester/12% elastane mix of the short-sleeve Training Top instantly feels smooth on the skin. The stand-out features are the mesh panels under the arms and down the spine, which successfully add ventilation to the already breathable and sweat-wicking mix. The cut is athletic but far from restrictive, and the flat-lock seams remain irritation-free. We say this rarely, but we actually thought it’d cost more than it does, and the smart looks complete a winning release.

Verdict: Fine looks, impressive performance and a decent price tag separate this from the crowd 92%
