Review: High5 4:1 Advanced Training energy bar

A high-carb, low-fat bar with added protein, good taste, texture and price

Rather like CNP’s Elite bar, High5’s Advanced Training energy bar is formulated with a mixture of pure dried fruits and cereals, including oats and puffed rice.

However, High5’s offering also contains added wheat and soy protein in order to provide a 4:1 carbohydrate-to-protein ratio as used in some of its drink formulations – a carbohydrate/protein ratio that provides plenty of energy for training but enough carbohydrate to help offset muscle tissue breakdown.

Once unwrapped, the taste was enjoyable – although not obviously cranberry flavoured – and most definitely fruity. The texture, meanwhile, was pleasantly moist and chewy, almost like a fruity flapjack. The bar’s low fat content also ensured it remained easy on the stomach.
