GU Salted Caramel

Innovative, well-formulated, great taste and suited to winter training

Refreshing fruit-flavoured gels are all very well in the summer heat, but if you’re craving a gel that tastes a bit more substantial and comforting for your winter training sessions GU’s salted caramel flavoured gel could be just the ticket.

Each 32g sachet delivers a carbohydrate blend of maltodextrin and fructose for rapid uptake into the muscles, sodium (from sea salt) and calcium to replenish electrolyte minerals, as well as useful amounts of the antioxidant vitamins C and E.

There’s also added caffeine courtesy of green tea leaf extract. In use, the saltiness was balanced perfectly by sweetness, resulting in a lovely caramel/toffee kind of flavour. The consistency was fairly thick but this worked really well with the taste.

In fact, the only downside was the cost; a two-hour training ride could see you get through over six quid’s worth!
