MET Codatronca TT helmet review
The new Codatronca TT helmet has a stubby, wide-bodied design that remains aerodynamic in various head positions, in contrast to MET’s boat-tailed Drone that requires the rider to maintain a more consistent head position to reap its full aero benefits.
MET state the shorter tail creates less drag if your eyes are glued to your computer, or are taking on some well-earned fuel. A magnetic buckle makes it quick and easy to get on in transition, and the wide ear covers prevent you from getting claustrophobic. Put simply, it feels like a road helmet.
Cooling is excellent via three vents at the front and a large hole on the tail for air to pass through. Mirrored and clear magnetic visors are included, but both tended to fog up a little if the weather took a turn. (We find the Zeiss visors that come with Giro’s Aerohead superior.)
MET say they’ve done wind-tunnel time to refine the Codatronca and, while we haven’t seen hard data, MET themselves recommend the Drone’s ‘superior aerodynamics’ and the Codatronca as the more versatile option, so the latter is likely going to be better for longer events and changeable courses. It certainly feels like the better investment for most triathletes, even if it’s not the quickest lid you can buy, but overall, we really got on with the Codatronca and appreciated the cooling and superior comfort on longer rides.
Verdict: Excellent fit and ventilation, slightly let down by the visor 85%
