M:Wheels Mavic Open Pro/Tiagra

The Open Pro has been the separate rim for ultra durable competition for decades. The double-eyelet design spreads stress through both inner and outer rim beds while the shallow, low-profile design gives a more forgiving ride than deeper aero-section extrusions. That means more comfort and less chance of a collapse, even if it picks up slight wobbles more easily.

Low rim weight means they generally feel faster and more responsive than you’d expect from their weight. DT Competition spokes aren’t aero, but they’re light and strong. The Tiagra hubs’ labyrinth seals and fully serviceable bearings make them hard to beat on durability, and Shimano’s QR skewers are the smoothest, most secure available.
