Halo AeroRage

Halo has been making wheels for headcase MTB dirt jumpers and free-ride lunatics for years, so we expected their road wheels to be rugged. The relatively low 25mm rim and symmetrical crossover (therefore longer and springier) spoking all round means they’re also comfortable.

The ‘Six Drive’ hubs are straight off their mtb wheels, with an instant and reliable pick up. Consistently tight spokes mean good drive through and no bagginess when cornering, while they’ll be easily replaceable if you snap one. Despite their spoke-rich design, they’re still one of the lighter sets here, with obvious acceleration and agility bonuses.

The bearings are also well sealed under push-fit covers, and the freehubs are available in Campagnolo, Shimano and SRAM versions. If we had to be picky, the weld seam isn’t as clean as some rims, which means there’s braking knock at first… but it’s soon smoothed out.
