Decathlon, the world’s biggest sports retail chain, underlined its intentions for expansion in triathlon by signing up as headline sponsor for the Lakeside Triathlon. Decathlon launched its support of the sprint-distance event by offering a fantastic prize draw for all entrants registering before 15 April – a B Twin Carbon Comp FC700 Triple road bike worth £1,499.99.

For a chance to win the carbon comp road bike simply enter the event before 15 April at www.onestepbeyond.org.uk.

Decathlon’s Lakeside store supported the inaugural triathlon in 2010 on a low key basis but was so impressed with the event that it had no hesitation in stepping up to become headline sponsor, joining other repeat sponsors including wagamama, the worldwide restaurant chain, to positively contribute to the experience of the competitor, spectator and volunteer.

“We are dedicated to people who love sport and we want to encourage them to participate in a great event like the Lakeside Triathlon and benefit through our support” said Kate McNeill, Public Relations Manager, Decathlon UK, who will be promoting the Lakeside Triathlon and the Northern Ireland Triathlon Series on the company’s stand at the Triathlon Cycling & Running Show, Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey on 11-13 February.

This unique event, hosted by Lakeside Shopping Centre, consists of a 750m swim in the centre’s Alexandra Lake, a 20km bike and a 5km run. It will provide up to 500 individuals or teams with a really fast flat course that will definitely appeal to both the experienced triathlete and novice first timer. Athletes can expect to have lots of support on the day as the course is overlooked by various viewing areas, bars, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Mike Porter of Triathlon Racing Inc, co-organiser with One Step Beyond Promotions, commented on the new Decathlon sponsorship deal and the event. “We are delighted to secure the support and commitment of such a high-profile sports retailer to help take the ‘Lakeside Triathlon in partnership with Decathlon’ to the next level. The deal provides some fantastic kit and prizes, including the carbon road bike, which will be really appreciated by the participants”.
