SRAM has told customers affected by its recent recall of all road hydraulic brakes that they will definitely get a free upgrade to this year's hydraulic brake system, though it won't be ready until April at the earliest.

Customers who don't want to wait that long are being offered a replacement mechanical brake system installed for free at their local dealer, and a cash reimbursement of €150.

SRAM issued the blanket recall last December after multiple brake failures were reported at US cyclocross races being held in sub-zero conditions.

The issue was blamed on a faulty seal, and SRAM's president Stan Day apologised for the mass recall, admitting that around 5,000 bikes in the hands of consumers will be affected.

SRAM has created a dedicated microsite where customers, dealers and bike brands can find more information on the recall here.
