Dmitry Polyanskiy and Elena Danilova grabbed gold in Penza over the weekend as Russian triathletes monopolised the leaderboard at the city's third annual European Cup.

For Danilova this marked the second year in a row she has won in Penza, posting a time of 02:05:10 this year for the Olympic distance course. Irina Abysova came in second, followed by Alexandra Razarenova (winner in Istanbul earlier this month).

In the men's race, Polyanskiy took his first win of the season with 01:47:39 - just ahead of last year's winner Vladimir Turbayesvkiy, while Andrey Bryukhankov pipped older brother Alexander to complete the podium in third place.

In the junior event, Anastasia Gorbunova and Alexandr Shcherbinin took home European gold. Slovakia's Ivana Kuriackova was the sole podium finisher from outside the Russian federation, coming second in the women's race.
