With a month to go until the Triathlon England Club Relay Championships in Nottingham places are filling fast. The Club Relays, which take place at the National Water Sports Centre, 24-25 August, are open to teams of four who will compete together to each complete a 400m swim, 15km flat traffic-free bike and 5km run.

The Relays are open not just to clubs, but also teams of four friends, work mates, relatives or individuals who are not club members but want to get together to join the festival atmosphere of the event with 2,400 triathletes.

There are national titles up for grabs in various age categories of men’s, women’s and mixed teams. To compete for national titles all four members of the team must be registered members of Triathlon England and compete in the appropriate wave start for their category.

However, open teams can compete in any wave, so despite the fact that the mixed wave is starting to get full up on Saturday morning, mixed teams can compete in either of the other two waves that are available.

The Club Relays are now in their 23rd year and attract 2,400 triathletes over two days of triathlon festival fun. Many chose to camp on site and there’s an event expo as well as numerous facilities on site (including a bar!)

The city centre of Nottingham is also just two miles down the road for those that prefer the comfort of a hotel room and refinement of a nice restaurant.

There is a definite emphasis on fun at the Club Relays, with many teams competing in fancy dress as well as those racing for every single second to try to win national titles. Many athletes also compete more than once, choosing to take part in mixed as well as men’s or women’s teams.

There are limited places available in the Mixed Team event on Saturday morning, so anyone wishing to enter that category is encouraged to do so quickly via http://www.onestepbeyond.org.uk.
