Salford Triathlon is back. Organisers of The Salford Triathlon have been given the green light to host one of the largest triathlons in the North West this summer on the site of MediaCityUK – the new home of BBC Sport.

It will be the first time in six years that a triathlon has been hosted in Salford and almost 1,000 athletes are expected to tackle the spectacular course on 18 August 2013. The course will entail both the Olympic and Sprint distances around the waterfront in Salford Quays. Relay teams may also enter

Already a mecca for open water swim enthusiasts Dock 9 is firmly established as one of the best open-water swim locations in the region due to its clean water and stunning back drop. It attracted more than 7,000 swimmers last summer including London Olympic 2012 open water contender Keri-Anne Payne.

The triathlon is being organised through a partnership between one of the founders of Knutsford Triathlon Club and Uswim Openwater who have run open water swim sessions at Dock 9 between April and October for the last two years.
