OD sold out for the London ITU World Champs race

With over two months left to the closing date for entries, all the places in the Olympic Distance age-group races at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London have sold out.



“For such a new event on the race calendar – 2010 is only our second year – this is a significant measure of our growth”, said James Robinson, of Upsolut Sports UK Ltd who are promoting and organising the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship London in tandem with the British Triathlon Federation.



The London event takes place on July 24 and 25 and also features Sprint Distance age-group races. “Anyone who wants to get the buzz of racing on the Olympic venue, still has the chance to get in on the act”, added Robinson.

“There are places left in the Sprint Distance (via www.triathlon-wcs-london.org) but triathletes should sign up quickly and would-be Olympic distance entrants still have a small window of opportunity’ he said.



“Marie Curie Cancer Care, the official charity partner for the event still has a limited number of Olympic Distance slots available and people can grab a place by signing up to raise funds for the charity and help provide more nursing care for terminally ill people”, said Robinson.



ITU U23 World Champion, Hollie Avil, is encouraging people to get involved in triathlons and raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care after her granddad was cared for by Marie Curie Nurses.



Hollie said: “I would really like to see more people getting into triathlons – it’s a really sociable sport as you can get friends to go running or cycling with you while you are training. World Champion Alistair Brownlee, from Britain, has already pledged to race at the event and will be joined by a host of top names from the UK and globally, offering a chance for age-groupers to race and then watch the stars in action.



“The Hyde Park triathlon is a really important event to me and to the sport of triathlon”, said Brownlee. It’s a big showcase for us. I’m hoping that lots and lots of keen triathletes – as well as novices that are just starting out – will sign up to race in the age-group events over the Hyde Park weekend.
