New sports partnership gets Tim Don’s seal of approval

The official launch of a partnership between Northants Junior Triathlon Club (NTri Juniors) and Moulton College received an endorsement of the highest order this week as Tim Don, former World Junior and Senior Triathlon Champion and four-times British Triathlon Champion, joined the club at its first training session.



Tim, who now lives in Northamptonshire, joined the juniors in a running technique and strength and conditioning class before hosting a question and answer session with the club’s young triathletes at the Pitsford Campus of the college.



The new partnership with Moulton College will provide Northamptonshire’s young triathletes with a safe, dedicated training facility to develop their cycling and running skills. And with the opening of a 25-metre swimming pool as part of a specialist sports injury and rehabilitation centre in 2012, it is hoped that the College will be able to accommodate the aquatic training needs and specialist athlete support services of the athletes.



Steve Casson, Head Coach for NTri Juniors, said: “Our ambition for the club is to provide a safe and fun environment for Northamptonshire’s young people to experience the increasingly popular sport of triathlon.



“The sports facilities at Moulton College are unrivalled in the area and provide a first-class platform from which to develop our local talent and help Northamptonshire’s young triathletes achieve their potential and realise their dreams.”



Robbie Speirs, Commercial Manager at Moulton College, said of the partnership: “This is an exciting new venture for both the College and the club and I am sure that we will continue to develop a very successful and long term relationship that will offer all young people in Northamptonshire access to world class facilities and specialist coaching.”



Tim Don said: “It’s really great to see the forming of such an enthusiastic local sporting partnership. I look forward to seeing the junior triathlon club grow from strength to strength and hopefully, with the support of the college and the NTri coaching team, the emergence of lots of future champions!”



For those club members just starting out to those already competing in regional and national junior triathlons, Tim’s experience and advice proved invaluable in the Q&A session – no more so than for the four junior club members who have been put forward for the British Triathlon East Midlands Talent ID Day later this month. If successful, the young triathletes will secure themselves a place on the Regional Triathlon Academy in 2011.
