With inspired timing, the London Triathlon's organisers have invited unsuccessful bidders for the London Marathon 2014 to try their hand at triathlon in 2014 - mere days after the marathon's ballot results were released.

With thousands of disappointed runners around the country ruing their unsuccessful application, the organisers behind London Tri hope that this could give them record numbers for 2-3 August 2014.

There are four different distances next year – Super Sprint, Sprint, Olympic and the longer-distance Olympic Plus (1.5km swim/80km bike/10km run) – as well as the option to compete as individuals or as part of a team relay.

As ever, the event will take place at London Dockland's Excel Centre, with over 13,000 triathletes of all abilities expected next year, along with over 30,000 spectators.

Entries officially open on 3 October, but entrants can register their interest now to gain access to a 48 hour priority window at www.thelondontriathlon.co.uk.
