Not content with winning the Ironman 70.3 Worlds and Beijing Triathlon since he was crowned 2014 WTS champion a month ago, Spain’s Javier Gomez has notched up yet another Olympic distance win.
Joining Gomez on the elite starting line at last weekend’s Barcelona Triathlon was fellow countryman Mario Mola, who claimed WTS silver in Edmonton last month, along with a smattering of Brits that included Neil Eddy, Sam Wade and Bobby Oade.
It was local athlete Cesc Godoy however who left T2 in first place after leading throughout the swim and bike, before seeing his 15secs advantage run down by the WTS medal winners. Gomez overtook Mola 200m from the line, with Godoy finishing 18secs later for bronze. Neil Eddy was the highest-placing Brit in 10th position, finishing just three minutes behind Gomez.

In the women’s race, New Zealand’s Anneke Jenkins was clear favourite, and took a big advantage on the bike to start the run with a 4min lead over second-placed Anna Godoy (ESP).
However, a foot injury picked up in T1 forced Jenkins to abandon, leaving the way clear for Godoy to pick up gold, followed 14secs later by Anna Flaquer (ESP) and six minutes later by Eloise Crowley (GBR) who took silver and bronze respectively.
