A spokesperson said: “Gordon is disappointed that he is not going to be able to participate in either of the two Ironman events due to an injury he has sustained off the back of extensive training. He was due to compete in Ironman Wales next week and Ironman World Championship, Hawaii in October, but following an injury and subsequent ultrasound at the beginning of the week, he has been diagnosed with a severe tear of his Achilles tendon.

“He has been advised by his specialist not to participate in any sporting activities to avoid risking more serious long-term damage.  He is extremely frustrated to not be taking part, but hopes for a quick recovery and to be able to compete again next year.”

The ‘Hell’s Kitchen’ star, 47, was awarded another wildcard for this year’s Kona after finishing last year (his first-ever Ironman) in a time of 14:04:48. He was recently snapped training in Santa Monica, California with his son Jack.
