Not wanting to be outdone by his training buddy David Beckham, celebrity chef and Ironman Gordon Ramsay is also doing his bit for this year's Sport Relief, leading a 'Flash Gordon Mob' for British expats in Los Angeles recently.
Around 35 expats joined the run in the beachfront city of Santa Monica last week, with some dressing in chef whites and others in ‘Flash Gordon’ costumes. This year's Sport Relief will be held over the weekend of 21-23 March, with the BBC set to broadcast a special edition of 'Only Fools and Horses' featuring a cameo appearance from Beckham.
“There’s so many British people living and working in LA, so it’s great to be able to cook up some awareness," said Ramsay. "I’m currently working here too, so it was nice to see so many Brits, as well as locals, coming along to show their support.”
Ramsay recently confirmed that he will be racing at this year's Ironman Wales in the 45-49 age-group category – his second long-distance triathlon after last year's Ironman World Championship in Hawaii (which he finished in 14:04:48).
The LA fun-run was organised by Flying Start, a partnership between Comic Relief and British Airways for helping disadvantaged children, which will also see BA staff collecting donations from customers on board flights, taking part in a 28-mile cycle ride around Loch Ness in Scotland and taking on the Three Peaks challenge in 24 hours.
