Triathlon's popularity continued to shine in the US last year, with national governing body USA Triathlon estimating that over half a million participants crossed the line in 2013.

There were more than a thousand age-group athletes on Team USA in 2013, who picked up 115 medals at the ITU World Championships, including 43 golds, 35 silvers and 37 bronzes.

By comparison, Britain's 450-strong age-group team collected 83 medals in London last September, including 30 golds, 31 silvers and 22 bronzes.

A whopping 1,551,902 training miles were logged during USAT's three-month National Challenge Competition, which attracted 121 clubs and 3,053 athletes – meaning that each participant logged over 500 training miles during the period.
