British Triathlon has named a GE Great Britain Triathlon Team of nine senior athletes to take part in the ETU Triathlon European Championships in Eilat, Israel, 20-22 April.

The men’s team will feature U23 World Champion, Matt Sharp, alongside Loughborough based teammates Adam Bowden, Aaron Harris and Mark Buckingham. Scotland based Ritchie Nicholls has been selected following strong performances so far this year, including a win at the Vina del Mar ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup and Ibero American Championships.

The women’s team includes Vanessa Raw, Abbie Thorrington, Lois Rosindale and Lucy Hall. Hall was a winner at the Salinas ITU Triathlon Premium Pan American Cup in Ecuador earlier this month.

The GE Great Britain Triathlon Team in Eilat will also feature junior athletes, who will be selected next month following the selection race in Portugal.

Reigning two-time European Champion, Alistair Brownlee will not defend his title this time around. Like younger brother Jonathan, and world champion, Helen Jenkins, the focus remains on preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Start lists for the ETU Triathlon European Championships will be available next week, and with some nations expected to use the event as their London 2012 Olympic Games selection race, the GE Great Britain Triathlon Team will have the opportunity to race against many of the best triathletes in Europe.
