With temperatures in the early twenties and not a hint of rain last Saturday in Colwyn Bay, North Wales, the conditions were looking good for some fast times at the Eirias Triathlon – and Welsh Commonwealth Games athlete Carole Bridge duly delivered.

Racing in the middle distance event, Bridge took overall victory with a time of 5:23:48 – a new female course record and over 3mins faster than the first man past the post, Christof Knoeri.

In the women’s field, Maree Jesson and Sonja Nuessli took silver and bronze respectively, while the men’s podium was rounded out by Joe Duckworth and Perry Hanson.

The standard distance race saw Stephen Skates dominate with the fastest times in all three disciplines, claiming the win in a time of 2:34:56, another new course record. Runner-up Owen Evans finished in 2:56:59, ahead of Paul Dunn who crossed the finish line in 3:00:17. The women’s race was won by Alexandra Smith in 3:31:56, ahead of Joanne Murray and Andrea Fern.
