British athletes win seven golds at this year’s European Middle Distance Champs

There was plenty to celebrate for British athletes at Challenge Paguera-Mallorca last weekend, home of the 2014 European Middle Distance Champs, with more than 20 GB medals in total including seven golds.

Around 1,100 triathletes took part across the various categories, which included elite, paratriathlon, age-group and open races. The elite races were won by Giulio Molinari (ITA) and Lisa Hütthaler (AUT), with the top-placing elite Brit being Parys Edwards who came sixth in the women’s race with a time of 4:49:21.

On to the age-groupers and wins were taken by: Jamie Davies (M18-19); Hester Hill (F18-19); Ross Simpson (M25-29); Nikki Bartlett (F25-29); Richard Munday (M35-39); Karen Watkins (F40-44); and Anne Maskell (F45-49).

Silver medals were earned by: Niamh Lewis (F18-19); Amy Ogden (F35-39); Fran Bungay (F40-44); Karen Bridge (F45-49); Carolyn Craik (F50-54); Maggie Bromley (F55-59); Crissy Milton (F60-64); and Clive Reading (M65-69).

There were a further eight bronze medals for the Brits: Judith Robinson (F20-24); Hannah Thomas (F25-29); Kate McNeill (F30-34); Peter Eggleston (M45-49); Robert Pettingell (M50-54); Sadie Murphy (F50-54); Margaret Sills (F60-64); and Pail Clift (M60-64).
