Team Jonny wins relay at Harewood House last weekend, while Spannagl siblings triumph in their respective fields

Last weekend’s Brownlee Tri lived up to its name with no fewer than five of the Yorkshire clan entering the relay race at Harewood House – Commonwealth Games winners Alistair and Jonny, their younger brother Ed and uncles Chris and Simon.

Alistair completed the 750m swim one second ahead of his younger brother in 9:33mins, but Jonny’s cyclist Ross Needham opened up a gap and then runner Stewart Randall stormed home, clocking an impressive 24:33mins for the 5.5km run to deliver victory for Team Jonny.

There were other sibling stories being played out elsewhere on the course: the female event was dominated by Johanna Spannagl, 21, who won the sprint race by more than 4mins clear of second place, while her younger brother Bernie, 18, was battling out with Sam Wardle in the youth and junior super-sprint race. Bernie pushed hard on the run to win the race by a margin of 34 seconds and take the family double.
