First look: Newton Energy Guidance Trainer

Lightweight, affordable offering aimed at less seasoned runners

Newton’s shoes have long been aimed at the experienced, often elite runner. Indeed, the likes of Ironman legend Craig Alexander and 2012 Challenge Roth winner Rachel Joyce are among those who extol the virtues of the brand’s wares.

The Energy is an attempt to break into more of the mass market by offering an affordable entry-point for less seasoned runners to convert to the Newtonian way.

The company’s trademark forefoot lugs have been slightly reconfigured for this new customer, while its light weight (255g for men, 198g for women) will also appeal to anyone wanting a more responsive ride than traditional running shoes.

Men can choose from either black/blue or citron, while women pick from blue (pictured here) or purple.
