Garmin has introduced two new action cameras that can record over three hours of high-definition (1080p) video and combine a rugged form-factor with video enhancement features.

Designed to make user footage look as crisp as possible, the VIRB and its more expensive, well-connected sibling the VIRB Elite both offer digital image stabilisation and lens distortion correction, as well as ANT+ connectivity for remote control functionality with other Garmin devices.

The VIRB has an IPX-7 waterproof rating meaning it can withstand immersion in one metre of water for up to 30 minutes, and an optional dive case is available for any adventures into the briny depths.

In addition to video, both cameras can take 16 megapixel photos. The VIRB Elite also features high-sensitivity GPS, accelerometer, altimeter and WiFi (for connecting to dedicated iPhone/Android apps).

The VIRB and VIRB Elite will go on sale this October for £269.99 and £349.99 respectively. Watch this space for the 220 review...
