After over 20 years of organising triathlons and duathlons, awarding winning organiser One Step Beyond is branching out, both in style of events and location.

On Saturday 4 February, One Step Beyond will be organising a new off road adventure race called Mud N Madness.

Mud N Madness is a mud crawling, heart pounding, adrenaline bursting, mind challenging, obstacle crazy event that will push you to your limits. But don't worry, no experience is necessary just an open mind and a sense of adventure with some guts thrown in for good measure.

The new off-road adventure challenge will be based at Stubbers Adventure Centre, Upminster, Essex (the open water base for SwimForTri). Competitors will take on challenges both on the land as well as on water, starting with Heartbreak Hill, before taking to the water and jumping in a kayak. Next is a time trial run with a few surprises, then back to the water.

This time, the idea is not to go in it, but over it using ropes. Just as you are feeling the burn it is the assault course & a bit of a beasting from Origin Boot Camps. Followed by the highlight or maybe lowlight of the course, the 4x4 mud swamp, which even during summer droughts has a couple of foot of mud lying around. Not to worry, before you finish, you will get the chance to wash off in the final river crossing. Competitors can compete as either individuals or teams of three over the challenging off road course.

Event Organiser, Iain Hamilton commented “having tested the course with some of the team from Stubbers, I can honestly say this is one of the most enjoyable courses we have ever designed. At the end of the day I was covered in mud you can check out the action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTNg07JJZOU&feature=related. It took us about an hour to complete the course so we think the super fit amongst you will nail it in around 40 minutes!”
