Exclusive: Tough training weekend ahead as Challenge Barcelona looms
A newbie to long-distance triathlons shares his weekend training plan
Following the news earlier this week that UK university lecturer Dr Justin Roberts has recruited 80 people of average fitness to enter (and finish) the Challenge Barcelona-Maresme event this October, one of the participants has shared their training plans for the weekend.
Gary Smith tells us on Twitter (via @fivemengorunnin) that all participants will be following the same training plan in the run-up to the punishing event, adding:
@220Triathlon Its going great, tough at times, as you would expect but totally amazed at my own progress! Got a tough weekend ahead…

@220Triathlon … A long run of 2hrs with a 7kg weight, a 75mile ride with a 6mile run off the bike and an iron distance open water swim..

Gary’s exploits can be followed on his Twitter account, along with those of Alex Smith (@Average2Ironman)
The Barcelona event (www.challenge-barcelona.es) will take place on October 6th and involves a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride and then a 26-mile run.
