Colwyn Bay will play host to one of the hottest new additions to the 2012 triathlon calendar on Saturday 21 July. Xtra Mile Events, organisers of the award winning Llandudno Sea Triathlon, are now accepting entries for ”The Eirias” middle distance triathlon at www.xtramileevents.com/enter-now.

Up to 500 triathletes from across the UK are expected to take part in the inaugural Eirias middle distance triathlon. The race will utilise Colwyn Bay’s stunning new waterfront complex along with the state of the art Parc Eirias stadium. Race organisers are hopeful of also attracting a number of new recruits to the fastest growing sport in the UK.

Race Director Simon Hill is hoping the success of the Llandudno Sea Triathlon can be repeated along the North Wales coast.

“The Llandudno Sea Triathlon has quickly become one of the most important races on the UK triathlon circuit, and winning the Race of the Year Trophy shows Xtra Mile Events has a winning formula. We are equally excited about The Eirias Triathlon in Colwyn Bay. It utilises world class facilities that are now available in Colwyn Bay.”

“The 1.9km swim will start on the new beach at the Watersports Complex; transition will be on the pitch in the Parc Eirias stadium. The challenging 106km cycle leg takes in the glorious Conwy countryside with long stretches of road that will allow riders to take full advantage of their TT bikes; the 21.1km run leg is along the flat coastal path topped off with a grandstand finish on the track in the Parc Eirias stadium in front of the grandstands packed with spectators enjoying the July sunshine.”

All competitors will be invited to an evening awards dinner at the new Parc Eirias Events Centre, with tickets also available for friends and family.
