This just in from the DuckNDash race organiser...

The Olympic Torch shone through Letchworth and The Games have lit up all our lives over the last couple of weeks, igniting sporting ambition and illuminating many sections of the establishment and local community alike on the multi-layered benefits of participating in sport at grassroots level.

For many, however, the issue is how to find the motivation, challenge and facility to get out the door and give it a proper go. Well, for anyone facing this sort of dilemma, local Triathlon club FreedomTri may have just the answer in the third, annual ‘Garden City Aquathlon’ - The DuckNDash 2012.

Now in its third year, the DND is a Swim-and-Run, Sunday-morning Aquathlon combining the classic 1930's Letchworth Garden City outdoor 50m pool with the gritty, cross-country run-course on Norton Common. Now in a bigger format to include Junior age-groups from 8 years and ‘big-kids’ right up to the age of 80, the DuckNDash is a community sports event involving a variety of distance options for those just wanting to ‘Enjoy It’ as much as for those intending to compete for the glory.

Over 250 people are expected to take part on the final weekend of the school holidays with 50% under the age of 16. There is a Relay Challenge for Swim-Run pairs from any club or business and the race is billed as the perfect ‘sharpener’ for late summer Triathlon training, for all types of junior athletes and for those wanting to get their first taste of the world of multisport. Plenty of fun and sporting satisfaction is guaranteed but entrants also get a ‘fully-loaded’ goody-bag, hydration products during the race, sponsorship benefits and prizes from local associates such as Tri1, Hydro-Active and Trisports store, professional chip-timing plus the supportive touch of FreedomTri.

If you want to dip your toe into the world of Triathlon, get your kids swimming like Helen Jenkins or running like Alistair Brownlee, then go and have a gander at the DuckNDash 2012.
