Dengie’s got tri fever

Race report from the Big East Triathlon, held this weekend in Bradwell

The third annual Big East Triathlon took place on Sunday 5 May at Bradwell Marina. The event included a Challenge Distance (800m Swim/43km Cycle/10km Run) and Middle Distance (1.6km swim/82km cycle/20km run).

The Zone3 swim course received some great feedback and people really enjoyed swimming alongside the moored boats in the river. Competitors also commented on how much they enjoyed the cycle course.

The roads in the Dengie are fantastic for cycling with relatively little traffic and relatively few junctions. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere for the start of the Hi-Tec run and an enormous crowd of people gathered to take in the sunshine and the spectacle on offer, the free Erdinger Alkoholfrei helped too!

In the Challenge distance Oliver Milk, two-time Fambridge Yacht Haven Half Iron winner won in an course record time of 2hrs 08mins 26s. Amy Pritchard of Tri London was first female with a time of 2hrs 30mins 03s.

In the middle-distance Darren Jenkins of Nevagivin Tri & Multisport won with an outstanding time of 4hrs 03mins 46s, shaving over 30mins of the previous course record, while Catherine Faux of Team Freespeed Virgin Active was fourth overall and first female in an equally impressive 4hrs 16mins 53s.

Thanks goes to Bradwell Marina, Bradwell Outdoor Centre, Precreate Solutions and our sponsors; RG Active, Zoggs, Hi-Tec, Zone 3, Nigher Nature, Tri & Tri Again, Erdinger Alkoholfrei, Amphibia Sport, Harpers Fitness, Tri N Swim Well and Yellow Jersey Cycles.
