As Ironman Wales drew a close to Ironman racing in the UK for this year, the trend for endurance racing proves to continue to be on the rise with entries for 2013 filling at a record rate.

Upon confirmation that Bolton will once again host Ironman UK on Sunday 4 August 2013, 1,000 athletes had entered the event within seven days of its opening, with an impressive 54% signing up to Ironman racing for the first time. With entries being filled 9 times faster than this time last year and only 400 places remaining, organisers are anticipating the event to be full by the end of October.

Given the high percentage of first timers committed to the challenge of racing the 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run, World Endurance UK are committed to supporting competitors with all the training required to help them achieve their goal of becoming an ‘Ironman’. Training events will be held at all the venues well in advance to help prepare the athletes for what’s in store. Ironman 70.3 UK on Sunday 16 June 2013 in the stunning setting of Exmoor also provides the perfect warm up for more seasoned athletes as well as those looking to step up to racing longer distance.

Demand for being part of the Ironman action in 2013 also extends to the younger generation, following the success and sell out entry of IronKids racing at all UK events this year. Open to children aged 5-14, thousands of kids have been exposed to the sport of triathlon and the Ironman experience within a competitive environment. Entry to IronKids events for 2013 will open on 30 October 2012.

Athletes can also combine their racing with making a significant contribution to charity through guaranteed entry slots available from Scope, the official charity of Ironman UK, 70.3 and Ironman Wales, with an initial £99 to pay along with a commitment to fundraise £1,000 for their great cause. Athletes interested in finding out more about racing for Scope through one of these places should contact them via events@scope.org.uk
