The European Middle Distance Triathlon Championships will return to Spanish soil this year, with the European Triathlon Union picking Challenge Mallorca to host the finals on 18 October.

Last year's winner Javier Gomez is among those expected to turn up, after winning in Barcelona last May, when he comfortably beat a strong field which included Australia's Chris McCormack.

Other Challenge events which have got the nod from the ETU recently include Challenge Almere, which has been chosen to host the European Long Distance Championships in September.
