A new Challenge event is coming to the Australian city of Gold Coast in Queensland on 24 August, with around 1,500 athletes expected to show up.

Competitors will start with a 1.9km swim in Currumbin Creek, followed by a 90km undulating ride through the Currumbin and Tallebudgera Valleys, before finishing with a 21.1km run along Currumbin Creek, Currumbin Beach and Tugun Beach.

Elite Aussie athlete Tim Berkel said: “By adding another event in Australia with €25,000 of prize money on offer, there is much more incentive to race in Australia rather than traveling overseas for events,” adding that the bike course will “sort out the men from the boys."

The new race takes takes the Challenge Australia to four races, which currently includes Challenge Melbourne, Challenge Forster and Challenge Batemans Bay. The Challenge Family series currently features 23 events around the world.

General entries for Challenge Gold Coast open on 13 January 2014 at www.challenge-goldcoast.com.au.
